Paruppu (Dhal) Sambar

I run out of Sambar Vegetables. So was asking the kids what sambar they prefer (of course with no vegetable) the options are limited. They had the choice of Onion, Tomato and paruppu sambar. They have selected Paruppu sambar. My MIL used to do very well. Till Last year whenever I did they keep complaining the taste is not that good. When my mum was in town last year I learned from her again. They are much happier with the taste these days


Ingredients:

Thuar Dhal – 3/4 Cup
Tamarind – 1 small Gooseberry size
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Dry chiilies – 6
Black vadavam / vadagam / Vengaya Vadagam – 1 small balls (make it into small pieces)
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 1 string


Method:


Pressure cook the Thuar Dhal with turmeric powder (4 Whistle)
Soak Tamarind in hot water and extract juice out from it
Heat the kada and add oil
When the oil is hot add drychillies, Curry leaves and vadavam
add this into cooked dhal with Tamarind.
Let it boil for 5 mins.


Note: This sambar will be thicker than other sambar
