Peanut Kuzhambu

This is one of my mum best recipe. Whenever I go to my mother house or she visit us this one will be on the card for sure. I used to think the work involved in this is lot so shied away from making this by myself. However both of my kids are crazy about peanut. So this weekend wanted to give it a try. I called my mum in the morning to get the recipe.


Ingredients:


Coriander seeds – 2 teaspoon
Mustard – 1 teaspoon

Urad Dhal – 1 1/2 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal – 1 1/2 teaspoon
asafoetida a pinch
Red Dry Chillies -6
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Cocunut – 1/2 cup
Small Onion – 20
Garlic – 10
Tomato – 1
1 string Curry Leaves
Peanut (not roasted) with skin – 1/2 Cup
Oil – 3 tablespoon




Method:


Chop Onion and Tomato thin long slices
Slice garlic into thin pieces
Heat Kadai
Add 2 tablespoon of oil.
When Oil is hot add 7 Garlic and fry for 30 sec
Add 12 Onion  and when it is cooked add 1/2 Tomato
When it is soft add coriander seeds fry for 30 sec
Add urad dhal / bengal dhal and fry till brown. Add Dry Chillies and fry for 2-3 mins
Add Cumin Seeds
Add Cocunut and fry for few mins
switch it off and let it cool
Transfer it to mixie and grind it well with water (the paste must be thick)
Cook peanut in cooker with salt (will be cooked with 2 whistle)
Heat Kadai and add remaining oil
when oil is hot add mustard seeds when it started to splutter add curry leaves and asafoetia, fry for 30 sec
Add remaining Onion and Garlic fry till raw smell goes off
Add remaining 1/2 Tomato. Fry for 2 mins
Add cooked peanut (no need to drain the water if any)
Next add masala paste
Add water if needed and it boil till good aroma comes
switch off and serve with cooked rice
