Pepper Sevai (Idiyappam)

Being on school holiday I prefer to give something other than bread for the kids for breakfast. Normally South /north Indian breakfast items like idli, dosa, Adai etc.. is our dinner item. So I don’t want to repeat the same thing in the morning for breakfast also. So I normally give them some variation with some leftover from dinner. Idiyappam is one such item. Everytime I make idiyappam I make little more to be used in the morning. Normally I do Lemon Sevai or Puli Sevai or Pepper sevai. Of all Pepper sevai is my favourite.
Ingredients:
Idiyappam (I hv used from left over idiyappam)- 4-5 (when you cut it it should be about 2 to 2.5 cups). If you don’t have idiyappam you can use ready made rice sticks
Pepper corns- 1 teaspoon
Cumin Seeds – 1 teaspoon
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Onion – 2 tablespoon
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 15-20
Cashewnuts – 1 tablespoon (roughly broken)

Method:
Cut the idiyappam and separate it like noodles. Keep it aside. If you are using the readymade rice sticks cook per instruction on the pocket and cut into 1/2 inch noodles. Keep it aside

Powder the cumin and pepper seeds into a coarse powder. Keep it aside. Heat kada and when it is hot add oil. When Oil is hot add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add urad dhal and fry till they are brown. Add Onion, Curry leaves and cashewnuts and fry till onion is cookied (slight brown). Add Pepper powder and mix well. Fry till nice aroma comes (about 30 sec – 45 sec). Add idiayappam, salt and mix well.

Now it is ready to be served. Enjoy it
