Mullangi Masala Kuzhambu

I was so bored with regular sambar with dhal or normal puli kulambu / Kuzhambhu. So I was fliping thro’ my recipe notebook for something different that will entice kids. For vegetable I had white radish in the fridge. My criteria was clear.. I want to do something without dhal or sambar powder. I came across this recipe. I remembered I had tried this long time ago.. So decided to give it a try. We all loved it
Ingredients
Radish – 2 cup (Slice it like you will do it for Sambar)
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Coriander powder – 1 teaspoon
Red chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Thick tamarind paste – 3 teaspoon
For Tempering

Oil – 1 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1/2 teaspoon
Bengal gram dhal – 1/2 teaspoon
Fenugreek seeds – few
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 10 to 15
Dry red chilli – 1 broken into few pieces

Method:

Grind coconut with tamarind paste, coriander powder.

Cook the Radish with required salt. Once it is cooked add grinded coconut paste, chilli powder, Turmeric powder and mix well. Let it boil reduce the flame.

In another burner prepare for tempering. Heat the pan with oil. When it is hot add all the items under tempering and fry till dhals are brown in color. Add this to the sambar and mix well. switch it off.

Serve it hot with rice
