I make chutney every other day and I love to try different chutneys. During my holiday to Cambodia we ended up in Dakshin and I loved the food esp the chutney they served. It tasted closer to onion but a slightly different flavour. So I asked for the recipe and she readily gave it to me. I wanted to try it as soon as possible. So here you go with the recipe
Ingredients:
Small onion / Shallots – 3/4 cup ( sliced)
Tomatoes – 2 (chopped roughly)
Curry leaves – 4 strings
Ginger – 1 inch
Garlic – 10 pods
Oil – 1 tablespoon
Mustard seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 1 string
Red dry chillies – 5-7 (adjust to your spice level)
Method:
Heat the pan with 3 teaspoon of oil. Add garlic and ginger. Fry till brown color. Add shallots and fry till transparent. Add tomatoes and fry till mushy and add curry leaves
Add red chillies and fry for another min. Switch it off and grind to smooth paste
Add rest of the oil in a pan. Heat it and add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add urad dhal and 1 string of curry leaves. Fry till dhals are brown in color. Add this back to the chutney
Mix well. Serve
