Snake Gourd (Podalangai) Poriyal

I love snake gourd (podalangai) from my childhood. This is one vegetable I get it near my house (doesn’t have to go to Little India). My 2nd son loves this also. This is very easy, Healthy and nutrious food. My mum used to use Moong dhal for this but sometime I use Channa dhal this gives different flavour to the poriyal.



Ingredients:
2 cups of snake gourd, peeled, cleaned and cut into small semi circle pices
1/2 cup of channa dal / kadala paruppu 


1 teaspoon cumin seeds 
1 teaspoon of sambar powder 
1/4 tsp of turmeric powder 
2 teaspoon of Oil of oil 
dry red chillies 
10 curry leaves

Salt per taste

Method:

Cook Channa dhal 3/4th

Heat kada and add oil. When it is hot add cumin seeds. When it start to crackle add Curry leaves and dry red chillies. Fry for 30 sec
Add the chopped snake gourd pieces,turmeric powder and Salt. Let it cook by closing lid.

When it is 1/2 cooked add sambar powder and mix well

Let it cook fully
Add Cooked Channa Dhal and mix it well. Let it fry for another 3-5 mins
Serve hot
