Another grain based dish. I love to try anything and everything which is grain based. After hearing so much about Thinai I brought it and first item I tried with that is Adai. I thought it is easier to try it out as it also has dhals in it and difficult to go wrong. To my surprise it came out very well. In fact my kids like this over normal adai
Ingredients:
Thinai (foxtail millet) – 1 cup
Bengal gram dhal – 1/4 cup
Urad dhal – 1/4 cup
Moong dhal (split yellow dhal) – 1/4 cup
Red chillies – 3-4
Salt to taste
Ginger – 1inch
Onion – 1 (finely chopped)
Curry leaves – 10
Coriander leaves / cilantro – 1 tablespoon (finely chopped)
Coconut gratings – 2 tablespoon
Oil as needed for cooking
Method:
Wash & Soak thinai separately, all dhals together for 2-3 hours. Grind it to slightly coarse paste together with red chillies, ginger, Coconut gratings, Onion, salt and curry leaves.
Add coriander leaves. Mix well. Heat flat pan and pour laddle full of batter and spread it outwards to get small round ada. Sprinkle oil around it. Let it cook in medium flame. Turn it over and cook on the other side
Serve hot with sambar and chutney. Enjoy it
