Valaipoo Poriyal – 1

Everytime when I go to little India for the past 4-5 times I am able to get Valaipoo. Even though it takes more time to get it prepared I go ahead ad pick it up everytime (Benefits out weighs the effort :-)).. Other than getting it prepared the balance process is simple. May be this is for your favourite  serial time?


Ingredients:
      Plantain flower / Valai Poo- 1 (cleaned and chopped)   — For how to clean you can refer to http://www.ganeshvilla.com/bananas/banana_flower_salad.htm
Tips: you can apply oil in your hand to prevent from turning black
 onion – 1 (Finely Chopped)
Roasted Peanut – 2 tablespoon
mustard seeds- 1/4 teaspoon
 urad dhal- 1 teaspoon
Bengal Gram Dhal – 1 teaspoon
curry leaves – 1 string
Sambar powder – 1 teaspoon
 salt – 1/4 tsp
cooking oil- 1 teaspoon
Method:
  • Heat a Pan. Add oil when oil is heated add mustard seeds
  • After the mustard seed pops, add Urad Dhal, Bengal Gram Dhal and Curry Leaves
  • Add Onion and Fry for 2-3 mins
  • Add the Chopped Valai Poo
  • Stir fry everything. Add Salt and 1/4 cup water and cover the pan with a lid
  • After 10 mins the valai poo will get cooked
  • Add Sambar powder and mix well and cook for another 10 mins
  • Mix in Roasted peanut. Mix well and serve hot as side dish to any rice
