Vazipoo paruppu usili – paruppu usili – Plantain flower usili – Valaipoo paruppu usili RECIPE

I love usili. I have posted beans paruppu usili, Radish paruppu usili, cluster bean paruppu usili. Last time when my mum visited she did valaipoo paruppu usili. She added coriander seeds while grinding the dhal paste. Normally I don’t really add coriander seeds.I liked the variation. It goes very well with curd rice or rasam rice. Normally when I do usili I don’t do sambar (yeah too much dhal in one meal!). Here you go with the recipe
Ingredients:
Thoor / thuvar / toor Dhal – 3/4 cup
Red chillies – 4-7 (adjust to your spice level. I have added about 7)
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Coriander Seeds – 1/2 teaspoon
Clean and cut valaipoo – 2 cups
Asafoetida – pinch
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 10-15
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt per taste
Butter milk – 2 tablespoon



Method:

Tips: you can apply oil in your
hand to prevent from turning black
Chop the cleaned Valaipoo into
1/4 inch pieces ( I love to chop even smaller piece). Keep cut valaipoo in
water added with 2 tablespoon of buttermilk till you need it. 
Drain water and cook valaipoo with salt (You can use pressure cooker till 2 to 3 whistle or cook on the flame by closing the lid. I have used cooker). Keep it aside

Soak the toor dal , dhania
seeds, cumin seeds, red chillies and salt for 30 minutes. Drain the water and
grind to coarse paste using blender / mixie or food processor. Steam this
mixture in idli cooker till it is cooked (when you touch shouldn’t stick to
your hand). It might take about 15 mins. Let it cool down and using your hand
make it to crumbled mixture. You can use mixie / blender too. I used my hand to
do it. Keep it aside

Heat the kada. Add oil when oil
is hot add mustard seeds and let it pop. Add urad dhal and curry leaves. Fry
till dhals are brown in color. Add dhal mixture and fry for 3-5 mins. Add
cooked Valaipoo and mix well. Leave it on low flame for another  3-5 mins.
Switch off the flame
