Wheat rava upma kozhukattai – Pidi kozhukattai – Upma kolukattai – GANESH CHATURTHI RECIPES | VINAYAKA CHAVITHI RECIPES

I wanted to do something with Wheat rava and something different from upma. My son was suggesting kolukattai. Why not? But after I made it when he tasted it he was saying he was expecting sweeter version .. But he told me this savory version is also not bad. I loved it. It is perfect for evening snack.
Ingredients:
Wheat rava / rawa – 1 cup
Coconut gratings – 2 tablespoon (optional)
Bengal gram dhal – 2 tablespoon (soaked in water for 1 hour)
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
bengal gram dhal – 1 teaspoon
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Red chillies – 3 (cut into 1/2 inch pieces)
Curry leaves – 10

Method

Drain the water from soaked bengal gram dhal and keep it aside. If you are using granted coconut dry roast it till moisture is absorbed. Keep it aside. Heat the pan and add oil when it is hot add cumin seeds, mustard seeds. when the cumin seeds start to crackle add dhals, curry leaves and chillies. Fry till dhals are brown in color.

Add 3 cups of water and salt. Let it boil. Add rawa and mix well. Cook it with lid closed. Switch it off. when the upma is ready to be handled make a small lemon size ball and steam it in idli plate for 7-10 mins (when you touch it shouldn’t stick to your hand).

Serve hot with your favourite chutney
