Millets are beneficial to one’s health. It is high in vitamins and minerals. This Kanji, in my opinion, provides a good alternative to bread and oats for breakfast or brunch. I like it better with buttermilk than milk. You can substitute boiled milk for the buttermilk if you prefer. This will keep you full for a long time. So it’s ideal for dieting days. I tried it with Kodo millet (Varagu) and Barnyard millet (Kuthiraivali). Varagu is used in this post.

Ingredients:
- Varagu Rice – 1/2 cup
- Buttermilk – 2 cups
- Water – 1.5 cup
- Salt to taste
- Curry leaves – 10
- Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to your spice level)
- Green chillies – 1 (slit)
- Garlic – 4 -5 (I prefer it put more but it is completely optional to you)
Method
Wash varagu arisi. Cook the rice with water, garlic, green chillies, Curry leaves, pepper powder and salt. I have cooked in pressure cooker till 4 whistle. Mash it well.
Mix in butter milk. Mix well. Add hot water if required.
I had this with Mor milagai.. It is really so refreshing

Yes Jothi you can. Just soak Kambu / Bajra Millet for 2 hrs. Drain it. Run it in blender to break it. and then use it. It will give better texture
