Bombay chutney – Besan chutney – Chickpeas flour chutney – simple side dish for dosa, poori and chapathi

This one my mum does it quite often. I seldom do it because of the amount of onions in it. Traditional one is using besan flour but my mum does with roasted gram dhal (which I will post it shortly). This goes very well with Dosa / idli  I like to have it with chapathi also. If you don’t have any vegetable in stock but you want to make some quick dinner you can try this.
Ingredients
Besan flour / Bengal gram dhal – 3 tablespoon
Onion – 1 (slice it thinly)
Tomatoes – 1 (chop roughly)
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Curry leaves – 10
Green chillies – 4 to 5 (adjust to your spice level)
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Red chilli powder – 1/4 teaspoon (adjust to your spice level)
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon
Chana dhal / bengal gram dhal – 1 teaspoon

Method:

Mix the besan flour with 1/2 cup of water without any lumps add 2 more cup of water. Keep it aside. Head the oil in the pan and add mustard seeds, urad dhal, bengal gram dhal, curry leaves and green chillies. Fry till dhals are brown in colorl

Add Onion and fry till transparent. Add tomatoes and fry till mushy.

Now add mixed gram flour mixture. And reduce the flame. Add another 2 cup of water, salt, red chilli powder and turmeric powder. Mix well. Cook it with lid closed for 2 mins. Stir in between. Cook till you get desired consistency. Switch off the flame. Add coriander leaves

Serve hot with idli / dosa /roti / chapathi.
