How to make yogurt / dahi / Thayir at home? – Homemade yogurt (without yogurt maker) – Indian way of making yogurt

Even though we do yogurt or curd at home all most every day I haven’t posted that in my space. Last week when I was doing my weekly shopping and waiting to pay in the queue one of the aunty next to me asked why I am buying so much milk. I told her we consume lot of milk and yogurt. She started asking me about the procedure about making yogurt at home.. At that moment I have decided to post the recipe
Ingredients:

Milk – 500 ml
Yogurt – 1 teaspoon

Method:

Bring the milk to boil. Reduce the flame and simmer the milk for another 3-5 mins.Transfer to the vessel in which you want to set yogurt. Set aside to cool. To make good yogurt it is very important to add yogurt to the milk at right temperature. To check the temperature touch the milk with your clean finger and should be able to hold there for 10 sec. If it is too hot while adding starter the milk will huddle.. If it is too cold the yogurt won’t set.

Add 1 teaspoon of yogurt and mix well. You can use spoon or whisker but make sure you mix well. Let it completely cool down and close the container and leave it overnight or min 6 hours. If you are in cold place place it in the oven with light on or wrap it in wram planket

Your cheap and tasty yogurt is ready
