Most of the time I make idli only when my kids are not having their meal at home. Both of my sons are not big fans of idli. At home they always want dosa however when we travel to India they are fine to have idli almost everyday. At the same time once we are back they will tell me no idli for the next 6 months.. When I made this ilaneer idli they told me it has an unique flavor.Any spicy chutney will go well with this
Ingredients
Idli rice – 2 cup
Urad dal – 1/2 cup
Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Ilaneer water – 3 cup
Method
Wash rice, Urad dhal and soak it in Ilaneer separately for 4-6 hrs. Add Fenugreek seeds with urad dal
Grind Urad dhal till it is fluffy. Add Rice and grind it. Use soaked ilneer for grinding. Batter should be little coarse.
Remove it. Add Salt.
Mix well. Let it ferment overnight
Mix well the raised / fermented batter. Grease the idli plate / or place the wet cloth in traditional idli plate. Pour the idli batter and steam it in idli cooker for 10 mins or till when inserted a spoon it comes out clean. Remove it from idli plate
Serve hot with your favourite chutney

interesting use of ilaneer,I have tried ilaneer when making appams but never tried for idlis..nice idea 🙂
