I have posted a few versions of masal vadai (Plain, Carrot, Methi) whichever form or shape, for now, this is one of my family’s favorite. So this is one of my go-to recipe whenever I think of doing something for an evening snack. I saw this in Jey’s space. I have bookmarked it immediately. With the amount of shallots ( small onion) in that recipe, I have to find time to do it. As I said in many posts my 1st son is not a big fan of onion. Last weekend he was not at home and we were in a mood to do something for our tea time. So I decided to do this. Perfect! so addictive snack is ready
Ingredients
Channa dal – 1 cup
Onion / Shallots – 1/2 cup
Garlic – 2 pods / cloves
Green chillies – 1
Red chillies – 4 (adjust to spice level)
ginger – 1/2 inch (chopped finely)
curry leaves – few (finely chopped)
Mint leaves – few (finely chopped)
Fennel seeds – 1 teaspoon (I didn’t add as my son don’t like it)
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying
Method:
Wash and soak dal, Red chillies for 2 hrs. Drain water and Reserve 1 tablespoon of soaked dal.
In a mixer pulse the dal, chillies, ginger, garlic & salt without adding water. Just before making vada add onion, mint, curry leaves and mix well
Heat oil for deep frying. take a small lemon size batter and flatten it with hands. Place it carefully in the hot oil. cook it in medium flame. Turn it over a few times. Once done take it out by draining extra oil.
Place it in kitchen tissue to drain extra oil.
Serve it
