If you are looking for something filling and healthy with Millet and with Indian touch then you should try this. This can be good toddler meal option. If you are doing this for kids reduce the amount of green chillies. I have used Little millet for this recipe. However if you prefer you can replace it with Kodo millet or barnyard millet. I haven’t tried with Bajra / Pearl or Ragi/ finger millet so far. If you try do let me know the taste. Buckwheat can be used in place of millet too
Ingredients
Millet of your choice – 1/4 cup
Moong dhal / Yellow dal – 2 teaspoon
Mixed vegetables – 3/4 cup
Shallots / small onion – 10
Green chillies – 2
Turmeric powder – 1/2 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Garlic – 2 pods (chopped finely)
Tomato – 1/2 (chopped finely)
Curry leaves – 10
Method
Wash and soak the millet and dhal for 30 mins. Heat oil in a pressure pan. Add cumin seeds, curry leaves and green chillies.
Add onion, garlic and fry till transparent. Add chopped tomatoes. Fry till mushy.
Add mixed vegetables fry for 2 mins. Add Turmeric powder and salt.
Add 1.5 cup of water, Millet and dhal. Pressure cook for 3 whistles. When it is ready to open open the lid and add coconut milk. Boil it once. Just boil till use bubbles (don’t over boil)
Serve hot
