Puran Poli Recipe – Holige Obbattu Recipe – Kadala paruppu Poli Recipe – Traditional recipe – Festival recipe

Happy ugadi for all the readers! I like Poli esp with channa dal Poornam but my kids are not a big fan. So I was looking for opportunities to make it (otherwise I will have to finish what I make).  My friend who is an expert in this gave me the recipe sometime ago .. these days my mum makes very few sweets at home (she is also scared of eating all .. If she buys she can buy only 1 or 2 pieces) This is rich and tasty snack often done for neivadyam and for lot of festivals like Varalakshmi nombu, Ganesha chaturthi etc..I have done the Stuffing about the same way as how I did it for

Kozhukattai / kolukattai..

Ingredients:

For the Stuffing:

Chana dal / split bengal gram / Kadalai Paruppu – 1 cup

Jaggery – 1 cup to 1.25 (I have used only 1 cup)
Grated Coconut – 4 tablespoon
Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt a pinch

For Outer Layer:

Maida / all purpose flour – 1.5 cups
Turmeric powder – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil – 1/2 cup
Ghee – 3 tablespoon
Ghee for cooking the poli

Method:
Stuffing:
Dry roast the dal and soak it in a water for 2 hours

Cook it till you are able to press it. Drain the water and Let it cool down. Add coconut, jaggery and cardamom powder

Grind to smooth paste. Now make lemon size ball and keep it aside. If the mixture is watery just fry it in low flame till it thickens

Outer layer:
Take all the ingredients except Ghee for cooking the poli into broader vessel. Make a pliable dough by adding water little by little. Dough should be very soft. Keep it aside for 3-4 hrs (More the better)

Making Poli
Take small ball and roll out into small disk.

Keep the dal paste and bring all the sides together. Now roll it out into thin. I have used grease plastic sheet and use the plam to spread it. You can use Plantain leaf to do it too

Heat the flat pan and place the poli. Drizzle oil or ghee around it. Let it cook in medium low flame till brown spots appear. Turn it over and cook on other side too.  Remove it and serve.

Repeat the process till you make all the polies I love it next day

The kids seem to be an issue everywhere! Even I have this fear that I have to finish all and most of the time, that happens! Lovely looking poli, feel like grabbing one…
