After ValaiPoo Biryani I left with some ValaiPoo String which was not enough to make poriyal. So I had decided to try out thogayal. Since only me and my helper was having lunch at home I had decided to give it a try. We had it with Hot rice and ghee but this would go well with idli dosa too. Do try out. You can add 1/4 teaspoon of Jaggery to it. I didn’t add.
Ingredients
Garlic – 6-8 pods (I have used MalaiPoondu smaller version)
Red chillies – 4-5 (adjust to your spice level)
Valaipoo / Arati poovu /Bhale Hoova – 1 cup (chop roughly)
Bengal gram dal / Split Channa dal – 2 tablespoon
Asafoetida / hing – small piece
Tamarind paste – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 teaspoon
Method:
Heat a teaspoon of oil in a pan. Add Dal, garlic and red chillies. Fry till dal is brown color. Remove it from pan
Add rest of oil. Add Chopped Valaipoo and salt. Fry for 3-5 mins at medium flame (or till it is cooked). Let it cool down.
Let it cool down.Grind it with hing and tamarind paste
