This time when I was in India I saw rawa from most of the millets. I really went on a shopping spree and bought pretty much all rawa. This has become a habit now .. Pick up any new food stuff first and start to think what to do with it later. I have posted ildi made with idli rava and samai. I find it is hard to go wrong with idli rava. So this is perfect for bachelors who wants to try their hands in making idli.
Ingredients:
Bajra rawa / Pearl Millet rava / Kambu kurunai – 1.5 cup
Idli Rava – 1.5 cup
Urad dhal – 3/4 cup
Fenugreek seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Salt to taste
Method:
Wash and soak bajra and rice ravas together. Wash and soak Urad dhal for 6-8 hours or overnight
Grind urad dhal with adding water at regular interval till it is fluffy. In grinder (tabletop) it takes about 45 mins for me. Remove it from the grinder and grind the millet and idli ravas. Add enough water. Grind it for 15 mins is good enough.
Now add urad dhal batter and salt. Grind for 30 sec. Take out and let it ferment it overnight
Grease the idli plate / or place the wet cloth in traditional idli plate. Pour the idli batter and steam it in idli cooker for 10 mins or till when inserted a spoon it comes out clean. Remove it from idli plate
Serve hot with your favourite chutney and sambar. I have used Cauliflower chutney and Drumstick sambar
