Rava Appalu is famous Andhra sweet done during pooja/ festivals for naivedyam. This is super simple recipe. This famous Andhra dish is new to me. When I saw this it is sounded like Kesari. And my hubby is big fan of kesari. So I wanted to try this with jaggery instead of regular sugar. This is super simple dessert/ sweets. No need to worry about sugar syrup consistency. so even if you are a beginner in kitchen you can try this.  Color of this dark because of the quality of Jaggery. Do try this simple 6 ingredients under 30 mins recipe!

Ingredients for making Rava Appalu

  • Rava / sooji / Semolina –   3/4 cup
  • Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon
  • Jaggery – 3/4 cup to 1 cup
  • salt to taste
  • Ghee – 3 Teaspoon
  • Oil to fry

Step by step instruction to make Rava Appalu

step 1: Fry rava till nice aroma release in 1 teaspoon of ghee. Keep it aside. 

 

step 2: Heat jaggery with 2 cups of water ( My jaggery was good so didn’t filter it.If you have impurity in jaggery drain to remove the impurities. ). Bring it boil

           

step 3: Add fried rava and mix well without lumps. Cook it in medium flame for 3-5 mins

       

step 4: Add a teaspoon of ghee. Mix well. Remove it.

         

step 5: Apply ghee in hand and knead well. Take marble size balls flatten it. Keep it aside

        

step 6: Heat oil for deep fry. Place the Appalu Fry till golden brown. Remove from oil. Place it in kitchen tissue

Notes

  1. You can do this with sugar also.
  2. you can replace the rava with rice flour too
  3. Make sure the Halwa/ cooked kesari is not watery

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup Rava / sooji / Semolina
  • 3/4 - 1 cup Jaggery (adjust to your sweetness)
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
  • 3 tsp Ghee
  • salt to taste
  • Oil to deep fry
