Cereal Tofu recipe – Crispy & Crunchy

Tofu is high in protein and low in fat. It’s also very tender and absorbs all of the flavour of the dish. It’s a great blank slate and extremely adaptable.

 

Whenever I visit a Chinese restaurant I order a tofu dish. Cereal tofu is one of my favorite tofu dishes. Normally it deep-fried dish. But when I wanted to make at home I wanted to try shallow fry instead. I have used the Cereal mix I got from our supermarket. You can make your own mix (Cereal -1 cup, Pepper powder – 1/2 teaspoon, sugar – 1 teaspoon, salt to taste, curry powder- 1 teaspoon). You can use paneer instead of tofu too.

 

Ingredients:
Tofu – 2 big block
Cereal mix – 1 cup
Turmeric powder – 1 teaspoon
Chili powder – 1 teaspoon
Salt to taste
all-purpose flour – 4 tablespoon
Curry leaves – few
oil for shallow fry
Method:

 

Keep Tofu under a heavy weight for 10 mins to drain extra water out. Slice then thin and 1/4 inch cube. Add turmeric,chili powder & salt. Mix well. Keep it aside for 30 mins

 

Now roll tofu in flour and cereal mix.Keep it aside
Heat oil for shallow fry. Place Tofu & add curry leaves. 
Once done turn it over. Cook again. Once done Remove it

Serve hot!

Tofu is available in two types of categories.
Silken Tofu – Its mainly used in Smoothies, Creamy Desserts & Sauces in East asian tofu dishes.
Firm tofu – This can be used in Tofu scramble, Pan Fry, Stir Fry, Deep fry, Etc. Extra firm tofu would be a great option for getting crispy tofu. Super firm tofu is good for Grilling.
To improve the texture and flavour of the tofu, we can do one of three things: press, freeze, or boil. Tofu is packaged and simply sitting in water. And, as previously stated, tofu absorbs all of the flavour in a dish, so you can imagine how much liquid tofu absorbs while sitting in the package. You must press the tofu to extract the liquid. It’s actually much easier than you think; there’s very little work involved!

 

Tofu, unlike other plant proteins, contains all nine essential amino acids that your body cannot produce. All that protein packed into a 3-ounce slice keeps you fuller for longer, which is beneficial if you’re trying to lose weight.

 

To combine the protein and oil in the soymilk, most tofu brands use calcium sulphate. This adds additional calcium to tofu’s natural calcium content.

 

Tofu is also high in vitamins and minerals such as:

  • Iron
  • Manganese
  • Phosphorous
  • Copper
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin B
  • Potassium
  • Selenium
  • Magnesium
