Milk Burfi / Burfee is a very simple recipe that requires only a few ingredients. When it comes to making sweets, I am still a student. I never get consistent results with sweets, especially this one. I’m always nervous about removing sweets from the flame at the right time or using the right consistency of sugar syrup.

 

Every time I make sweets, I eagerly await the end result. Even my son asks me why we can’t buy from the store and why you’re so stressed out about the blog. To be honest, when things go well and you get compliments on them, you feel like you accomplished something. Having said that, I’d like to share a simple sweet with milk powder – milk powder burfi – with you today.

Ingredients for making Milk Burfi

 

  • Milk powder – 2.5 cups (full fat)
  • Sugar – 3/4 cup 
  • Ghee – 1/3 cup
  • Cardamom powder – 1/4 teaspoon (optional)
  • Milk – 1 cup (full fat)
  • Almonds – 2-4 tablespoons (thinly sliced)

Step by step instruction to make Milk burfi

 


Line and grease a vessel. Keep it aside.

 

In a bowl take all the ingredients except almonds and Ghee. mix well using whisk till everything combined without any lump

 

 

 

Heat pan and pour the milk mixture. Add ghee. Continue to cook in low flame until mixture thicken. Mixture will hold shape and start leaving sides. This might take about 10-12 mins

 

 

At this point transfer to greased pan/ plate. Level it with greased bottom or laddle. Add sliced almonds and press it gently

 

 

Let it cool down for 1.5 – 2 hrs and cut into desired shape

Notes

 

  • Make sure you use good quality milk powder. Full fat milk powder works best
  • You can add saffron or cardamom at the time of mixing
  • You can use chopped mixed nuts instead of almonds alone
  • Increase sugar level if you sweet tooth to 1 or 1.25
