Poppy Seeds Rice – Simple rice recipe – Kasa Kasa Sadham – Khus Khus rice – Gasa Gasala Saddi – Lunch box recipe

My kids generally like rice / pulao made with Podi like Ellu (sesame) Podi(powder) sadam, Peanut powder sadham. I love it as I am big fan of nuts. In my last Indian trip I got some podi from my cousin to guess the secret ingredients.. I couldn’t .. I can taste all the familiar ingredients but not the secret one. I took the recipe from her. It is actually poppy seeds which is secret ingredients
Ingredients


Cooked rice – 2.5 cup (I have used brown rice)
Poppy seeds – 2 tablespoon
Sesame seeds – 2 tablespoon
Peanut – 2 tablespoon
Urad dhal – 1 teaspoon + 1 teaspoon
Coconut gratings – 1 tablespoon
Red chillies – 5-7 (adjust to your spice level)
Salt to taste
Mustard seeds – 1/4 teaspoon
Oil – 1 teaspoon (I have used gingerly oil)
asafoetida/ hing – 2 generous pinch
Curry leaves – 10-15 leaves
Cashew nuts – 1 tablespoon



Method:


Dry roast poppy seeds, sesame seeds till they are nice brown color. Dry roast 1 teaspoon of urad dhal, red chillies 

Dry roast Peanut and hing (asafoetida). And roast coconut gratings till slight brown color. 

Grind all to powder in blender / mixie or food processor with salt. Heat the pan with oil. Add mustard seeds let it pop. Add urad dhal, curry leaves and fry till nice aroma released. Add the powder and cooked rice mix well

Serve hot
